A plan to reorganize the patent term extension system of biopharmaceuticals in a manner similar to those of the US and Europe is being reviewed.

In the pharmaceutical industry, it is predicted that if the reorganization plan passes the National Assembly, the patent term of some original drugs will be reduced to about one year.


According to the pharmaceutical industry, the Korean Intellectual Property Office recently prepared an amendment to the Patent Act to reform the system for the patent term of drugs on the 21st. The amendment is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly in the form of legislative acts.
